Local Applicants Pass Recent State Bar Exam
The list of applicants who passed the Washington State Bar Association’s examination taken last March was recently announced. Of the 444 candidates who took the three-day test, 72.5 percent passed.
Successful Inland Northwest candidates were:
Sharon D. Aizer, Mary P. Chavez, Lisa M. Esposito, Laura E. Garrison, Keith D. Grzelak, Matthew E. Harget, Lorraine H. Mastin, April B. Pearce, Margaret G. Kahoiwai Puu, John S. Reid, Andrea Stevenson and Kathleen M. Thompson, all of Spokane; Andrew J. Bobzien, Omak, Wash.; and Heidi Degroot Hutchinson, Pullman.
Anne Baril, a former Spokane resident, won a $1,000 scholarship from the Society for Mining, Metallurgy and Exploration Division. She is sophomore majoring in geological engineering at Montana Tech in Butte.
Karen Holmes, recreation supervisor for the Spokane Parks and Recreation Department, received the Washington Recreation Park Association’s 1996 Young Professional Award.
The annual statewide award is given to a park and recreation professional under 35 who demonstrates leadership, program excellence and commitment to the community.
Holmes, Northeast Youth Center Division director, helped develop the “Satellite Afterschool Program” in six northeast Spokane elementary schools.
Gregory Pschirrer, a Ferris High School senior, is the winner of the first Hamblen Alumni Scholarship. The $1,000 scholarship, presented by Hamblen Elementary’s PTG, is awarded on the merit of grades, standardized test scores and recommendations.
Marine Lance Cpl. Jeffrey R. Scofield has received a Meritorious Mast for outstanding service while assigned with Third Battalion, First Marines, First Marine Division, Marine Corps Base, Camp Pendleton, Calif. He is a 1993 graduate of Central Valley High School and joined the Marine Corps that year. He is the son of Jack and Tracei Scofield of Liberty Lake.
Rendell Childs, Spokane, has received the Music Business/ Management Department’s NAMBI Award at the Spring Awards Ceremony at Berklee College of Music in Boston.
Jean Robinson, a teacher in the Wilbur-Creston School Co-op, was selected as Eastern Washington University’s Teacher of the Month for April. She was nominated by Lindsey Llewellyn and five other students in her Spanish II class.
Robinson teaches elementary reading, language, music, art and high school Spanish for the Wilbur-Creston School Co-op.
East Valley School District’s Fourth Grade Odyssey of the Mind team won first place in Division and Problem, in both local and state competitions of the international level competition.
The six students will now represent Washington in the International Odyssey of the Mind competition in Ames, Iowa.
