Wwp Urges Limiting Access To River
The Post Falls City Council will consider a request from Washington Water Power tonight to restrict access to the Spokane River during times when the dam gates are open.
Utility officials are concerned that boaters and swimmers could get swept over the WWP dam when the gates are open. Due to high spring runoff, the dam gates are expected to be wide open until mid-June.
The proposed restriction would apply west of the Spokane Street bridge. Although the Q’Emlin Park boat launch now is closed, over Memorial Day weekend, several people were caught swimming and boating off the launch docks, which are dangerously close to the dam. , DataTimes
