Ccs Reps Excel Nationally
Defending long-jump champion Jason Rowe headed a group of five Community Colleges of Spokane athletes who placed Sunday in the All-American Junior College All-Star Track and Field Championships in Edwardsville, Ill.
Sprinter Ryan Karrer ran second in the 200 meters (21.50 seconds) and third (48.22) in the 400 while Rowe finished fourth in his specialty with a leap of 23 feet, 1 inch.
Kristin Peterson scored in three events, taking third in the long jump (16-10), the 100-meter hurdles (16.28) and the 400 hurdles (66.20).
Josh Muxen ran third in the men’s steeplechase with a 9:36 clocking. Shelley Massingale was fourth in the women’s javelin with a throw of 120-2.
Baseball
George Petticrew’s one-hit pitching in the nightcap allowed the Spokane Blue Devils to sweep the visiting Pullman Patriots 6-3 and 8-0 in AAA American Legion baseball play.
The Blue Devils won the opener by scoring four times in the fifth inning. In the second game, which was halted after five innings, Petticrew struck out eight.
