Bullett Takes Aim As Cubs Top Phils
National League
Scott Bullett went 5 for 5 with four runs batted in and Ryne Sandberg hit a bases-loaded triple as the Chicago Cubs handed the Philadelphia Phillies their sixth consecutive loss, 9-2 Tuesday night at Philadelphia.
Ahead 3-2, Chicago took control with a four-run fifth off loser Bobby Munoz (0-1). Bullett’s two-run homer in the sixth, his first of the season, increased the Cubs’ lead to 9-2.
Chicago pitcher Mike Campbell opened the fifth with a double, moved to third on a sacrifice and scored on Bullett’s second RBI single of the game. Bullett’s five hits were a career high.

Denver
Pinch-hitter Trenidad Hubbard snapped an eighth-inning tie with an RBI single, and Vinny Castilla hit a three-run homer in Colorado’s win against Houston.
With the score tied 5-5, Anthony Young (2-3) walked Walt Weiss and Jayhawk Owens with one out in the eighth. Xavier Hernandez replaced Young, and Hubbard greeted him with a single to center on the first pitch.
Braves 4, Mets 3 (13)
New York
Tony Graffanino, inserted into the game as a pinch-runner in the ninth, hit a sacrifice fly in the 13th, lifting Atlanta past New York.
The Braves snapped New York’s three-game winning streak.

Montreal capitalized on second baseman Ralph Milliard’s throwing error in the seventh to rally past Florida.

San Francisco
Nelson Liriano hit a two-run triple as Pittsburgh rocked San Francisco for five runs in the sixth.
It was the fifth straight victory for the Pirates, who have won nine of their last 10 games.

Rookie Chad Mottola hit a 432-foot homer and Kevin Jarvis won his first game in 365 days as Cincinnati extended San Diego’s losing streak to five games.

Donovan Osborne scattered nine hits, doubled in one run and drew a walk to force in another as St. Louis defeated Los Angeles.
Clearing the bases
Lenny Dykstra and Darren Daulton, the Phillies’ two ailing stars, aren’t likely to return this season, general manager Lee Thomas said. … New York Mets right-hander Paul Wilson was diagnosed with a a slight tear in his right shoulder. Wilson has been on the disabled list since June 5. … San Diego catcher Brad Ausmus was suspended for one game by the league for bumping umpire Mike Winters and throwing equipment during a weekend game. Ausmus appealed the penalty, which included a $1,000 fine, and remains eligible to play pending a hearing.
