Dollar Rises Against Yen
The dollar rose against the yen Tuesday, deriving strength from falling Japanese interest rates and tame U.S. inflation data. But late-day profit-taking helped send the dollar mostly lower against other currencies.
Prior to the opening of U.S. trading, the Japanese Finance Ministry announced it would resume buying of the government’s bonds on the open market, purchases that were suspended nearly three years ago.
The effect was to increase demand for Japanese bonds, pushing down interest rates.
