Washington Athletic Director Barbara Hedges was chosen the 1996-97 president of the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics. She is the first woman to serve as president of the organization. … USC football coach John Robinson received a five-year contract extension. Robinson, who turns 61 next month, had been working on the extension for several months. Terms were not disclosed. … John E. du Pont, accused of murdering Olympic wrestler Dave Schultz, was again denied bail in Philadelphia when a panel of judges ruled the multimillionaire posed a risk to flee the country. … Richie Parker, the former high school star who was shunned by larger schools after he sexually assaulted a 15-year-old girl 1-1/2 years ago, accepted a full basketball scholarship to Long Island University’s Brooklyn campus.
