Paul Edwards Hayden Lake, Idaho

No service will be held for Paul Burton Edwards, 84. English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of cremation.

Mr. Edwards, who was born in North Dakota, died last Saturday.

He grew up in Walla Walla, Chewelah and Dayton, Wash., graduating from high school in Dayton. He went on to work in lumber camps, road gangs and vaudeville during the Depression and attended one year of college. He later served in the Red Cross in England and joined the United Nations Relief and Rehabilitation Administration to run refugee camps in Egypt.

He served in Prague, Czechoslovakia, in 1945 and played a major role for the administration and the International Refugee Organization in Heidelberg, Germany, working with Nazi death camp survivors and refugees.

Mr. Edwards also worked for UNICEF as country director for Pakistan and the Philippines. He was also involved in the Peace Corps before moving to New York.

He finished his career in New York as UNICEF’s director of information. He retired to Hayden Lake in the 1970s.

Survivors include his wife, Virginia; one son, Paul Edwards of California; two daughters, Kay Abrahams of New Jersey and Carol Edwards, of Texas; one brother, Harper Edwards of Tacoma; one sister, Zilpha McCardle of Coeur d’Alene; and five grandchildren.

Randy Calene Sterling, Colo.

Service for Randy Duane Calene, 44, was held Wednesday at Short’s Funeral Chapel in Moscow, Idaho. Memorial service in Sterling will be Wednesday.

Mr. Calene, who was born in Moscow, died June 6 from an apparent heart attack.

He grew up and attended school in Troy, Idaho, graduating in 1970. He went on to attend electronics school in Phoenix, Ariz., before returning to Troy.

He moved to Spokane and attended Spokane Community College before moving back to Troy and working on a section crew for Burlington Northern Railroad.

Mr. Calene became a brakeman for the railroad and eventually became an engineer. He lived in Wyoming before moving to Sterling.

He worked for Burlington Northern for more than 20 years and recently applied for a transfer back to Idaho. He was a member of the Burlington Northern Engineers Union.

Mr. Calene was divorced twice.

Survivors include three sons, Jeffrey of Pocatello, Idaho, and Joshua and Jacob, both of Moscow; his mother and stepfather, Leota Calene McIntyre and Verald McIntyre of Spokane; one sister, Janice Bieren of Moscow; two stepbrothers of Spokane; and his special friend, Maxine Pippin of Sterling.

Memorials may be made to Troy Ambulance.

Elsie Lang Spokane

Memorial service for Elsie C. Lang, 88, is set for 3 p.m. today at Riverview Terrace Chapel. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of arrangements.

A lifetime resident of Spokane, Ms. Lang died Wednesday.

She graduated from Washington State Normal School in 1927 and from Eastern Washington College of Education in 1937. She taught kindergarten and first grade in Spokane for 45 years, retiring in 1972. She taught at Longfellow, Logan, Finch, Manito and Wilson elementary schools.

She was a member of Westminster Congregational United Church of Christ, active in both the Tree of Sharing and the Anna Chapter, the Spokane Area Retired Educators Association, Riverview Terrace Council, Delta Kappa Chapter of Kappa Delta Pi, Alpha Beta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma and the Audubon Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star since 1930.

She is survived by a niece, Jo Ann Cvengros, Naperville, Ill.; and nine grandnieces and grandnephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Westminster Congregational United Church of Christ or the Riverview Terrace Van Fund.

Arline Fry Spokane

Vigil for Arline C. Fry, 68, will be at 7 p.m. Sunday at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Mass is planned for 10 a.m. Monday at St. Aloysius Catholic Church. A private inurnment will follow. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Walthan, Mass., Mrs. Fry died Tuesday. She had lived in Spokane for 19 years.

She graduated from University of Guam in 1966 and was employed as a teacher and librarian there until 1977, when she moved to Spokane.

She had worked as a library technician in Spokane since 1977.

She was a member of St. Aloysius Parish.

She is survived by four sons, George Fry Jr. of Angels Camp, Calif., Leonard and Brad Fry, both of Spokane, and Glenn Fry of Galt, Calif.; one brother, Robert Walsh of Ladylake, Fla.; two sisters, Ann Bonacci of Ladylake and Eleanor Cumming of Allston, Mass.; and 10 grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Catholic Charities of Spokane.

Florence Keck Spokane

No service will be held for Florence C. Keck, 82, at her request. Riplinger Funeral Home is charge of cremation.

Mrs. Keck, who was born in Grand Junction, Colo., died Wednesday. She had lived in Spokane for more than 50 years

A homemaker, she was in the first graduating class of Rogers High School in 1932.

Her husband, Newton, died in February.

She is survived by her son, Dick Keck, of Nine Mile Falls; three grandsons and two-great grandchildren.

Shane Lee Walker Veradale

Service for Shane Lee Walker, 33, was held Friday in the Rose Chapel at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Burial was at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Mr. Walker, who was born at Idaho Falls, died Sunday. He had lived in Spokane for 26 years.

He worked in the logging industry.

Survivors include a son, Ryan Walker, and a daughter, Amanda Walker, both of Spokane; his mother, Violet Walker of Spokane; two brothers, Gilbert Bercier of Austin, Minn., and Tyrone Walker of Salem, Ore.; and five sisters, Linda Bender and Deanna Cottrell, both of Spokane, Terri Strong of Park City, Utah, Roseanna Depoe of Reardan, Wash., and Carla Colores of Great Falls, Mont.

Myrtle Milanovich Spokane

Viewing for Myrtle G. Milanovich, 81, is planned for 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home. Service will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Opportunity Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mrs. Milanovich, who died Wednesday, was born in Chaseley, N.D. She moved to Spokane in 1955.

A homemaker, Mrs. Milanovich was a member of Opportunity Presbyterian Church and the American Association of Retired Persons and a charter member of the Valley Senior Center.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William.

She is survived by a son, Robert Milanovich of Spokane; four daughters, Florence Thayer, Ethel Schuerman and Edith Martin, all of Spokane, and Joyce Schaal of Omaha, Neb.; two brothers, Ernest Austin and Cecil Austin, and one sister, Florence Daniels, all of North Dakota; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Jeffrey Sadler Spokane

Mass for Jeffrey Sadler, 33, is planned for 9 a.m. today at St. Aloysius Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Mr. Sadler, a lifetime resident of Spokane, died Wednesday of an brain aneurysm.

He was a 1981 graduate of Gonzaga Prep and a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Parish.

He worked in construction.

He is survived by his parents, Robert and Bonnie Sadler of Spokane; three brothers, James Sadler of San Jose, Calif., John Sadler of Marysville, Wash., and Richard Sadler of Benica, Calif.; and three sisters, Shari Simpson, Jeanie Sadler and Sueann Stephens, all of Spokane.

Betty Proctor Worley, Idaho

Private cremation will be held for Betty Proctor, 79. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Duluth, Minn., Mrs. Proctor died Tuesday. She had lived in the Inland Northwest since 1966, and in Worley, Idaho, for 17 years.

She graduated from the University of Minnesota with an accounting degree in the late 1930s. She worked as an accountant in Spokane.

She had been a member of the Lake Creek Ladies Club.

Survivors include her husband of 52 years, Leslie M. Proctor of Worley; one daughter, Pat Proctor of Seattle; one son, Bob Proctor of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and two grandchildren.

Memorials contributions may be made to the American Lung Association.

Susie Mason Spokane

No service will be held for Susie Mae Mason, 68. Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Baker, Mont., Mrs. Mason died last Saturday. She had lived in Spokane for 50 years.

She had worked as a claims adjuster for insurance companies.

She is survived by her husband, Theodore Mason of Spokane.

Mary Ann Reugh Spokane

Service for Mary Ann Reugh, 67, is planned for 11 a.m. Monday at Central United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Pierre, S.D., Mrs. Reugh died Thursday. She had lived here 51 years.

She graduated from Marycliff High School and worked at General Telephone briefly before she was married. She was a homemaker.

She was a member of Central United Methodist Church, Ladies of Oriental Shrine, Daughters of the Nile, Manito Golf and Country Club, and the Club at Morningside of Rancho Mirage, Calif. She also was a past worthy matron of Adelphi Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star.

Mrs. Reugh is survived by her husband of 45 years, K. Wendell Reugh, Spokane; two sons, Jim and Mark Reugh, both of Spokane; one daughter, JoLynn Kovalsky of Issaquah, Wash.; two sisters, Marilyn Goessel of Sunnyvale, Calif., and JoAnn Ebersole of Sikeston, Mo.; and seven grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children.
