Northwest’s best
Run of the River Bed and Breakfast in Leavenworth, Wash., has been tabbed the best B&B in the Northwest by readers of Seattle Magazine.
Indeed, the log-style lodge on the edge of the Icicle River boasts stunning views of the Cascades that surround Leavenworth and of a wildlife refuge just across the river.

Glass art
The Northwest center of glassblowing as an art is Pilchuck, a studio and workshop north of Seattle. But there are other places to see glass being made. One location is south of Spokane at the New Morning Glass Studio in Garfield, Wash.
Artists Jack Doebler and Mary Kernan demonstrate the off-hand glass-blowing technique. Visitors can tour the studio or enroll in a six-week class to learn the art of glass blowing. Courses are limited to three students and cost $225. For information about visiting the studio, call (509) 635-1263.
Olympic Peninsula
Thousands of people visit the Olympic Peninsula every summer. Those who want a guide, however, can take a weeklong trip with REI Adventures. The visit includes excursions to old-growth and temperate rainforests in the Hoh River Valley and to ocean beaches.
