Yellowstone Wolves Get Too Close To Cattle, Moved Back To Park
Two transplanted Canadian wolves released in Yellowstone National Park have been tranquilized and returned to pens in the park after roaming too far afield and too close to livestock.
Federal wolf reintroduction managers captured a yearling male and a female wolf early Monday morning and had them back in acclimation pens in the park before noon.
Wolf managers plan to reunite the captured wolves with their mother, who is raising a litter of five cubs in the park’s Stillwater drainage. But they want to wait another six weeks or so until the now two-month-old cubs are old enough to be captured with foot traps, park spokeswoman Stacy Churchwell said.
At that time, the female wolf and her cubs also will be taken to the acclimation pen to make it easier for her to raise her cubs.
