Bulls Sign Jackson To One-Year Contract For Reported $2 Million

Compiled From Wire Services

Phil Jackson is staying right where he is.

The Chicago Bulls coach signed a one-year contract Thursday. Financial terms were not disclosed, but broadcast reports earlier in the day said the contract was for between $2 million and $2.5 million.

“We’re really happy to have Phil back in the fold,” Bulls general manager Jerry Krause said.

Jackson, who has guided the Bulls to championships in four of the last six years, had been seeking a two-year deal. He also had threatened to sit out the 1996-97 season if he couldn’t get what he considered a fair contract.

Jackson, 50, was named NBA coach of the year after leading the Bulls to a league-record 72 victories this season.
