Public Television Manager Quits Job
Idaho Public Television’s general manager is quitting to work for a California school.
Jerold Garber, whose resignation was sought earlier this year by a North Idaho legislator, will leave the Boise post on Aug. 16.
Rep. James “Doc” Lucas, R-Moscow, complained to the State Board of education that Garber was ignoring educational needs and pandering to the Boise area at the expense of other parts of the state.
However, the board decided to renew Garber’s annual contract this spring. It even gave Garber a raise, according to assistant general manager Peter Morrill.
Neither Garber nor Lucas could be reached for comment on Thursday.
Garber will become director of institutional development with the School of Theology at Claremont College.
He headed Idaho Public Television for 11 years, during which time the operating budget doubled to $5 million.
Among his accomplishments, he lists expanding broadcast service to 24 hours, three days a week; enhancing educational outreach programs; creating an endowment and completing a $3 million capital campaign.
