Davis Slaps Suspension On Star Wide Receiver, Two Other Hurricanes

Compiled From Wire Services

Star receiver Jammi German and two defensive players were suspended Friday by Miami coach Butch Davis, who said he was determined to wipe away the football team’s “bad boy” image.

In an unrelated incident, senior offensive lineman Rick Perry was arrested early Friday on charges of battery and burglary after getting into a fight with his date. He was released Friday afternoon on $10,000 bond.

Perry, 23, pulled 17-year-old Tanessa Cummings outside of her home and struck her in the face, causing bruising and swelling, according to the arrest report.

German, a 22-year-old senior, was booted for the season after being arrested and jailed for beating the captain of Miami’s track team.

Also suspended were James Burgess, 22, a senior, and Jeffrey Taylor, 22, a junior. Neither player was charged in the case and each could be reinstated once Davis determines the players’ roles in the beating of sprinter Maxwell Voce, 23, on Wednesday night.
