Reflection Awards Received By Several Local Residents
Several Inland Northwest residents received Reflection Awards from the Spokane Council Parent Teachers Students Association.
Brian Melody, principal at Sheridan Elementary, received the Outstanding Service Award for PTA Principal of the 1995-96 school year.
Hutton PTA won the City PTSA Newsletter Award for The Hutton Herald. The group also received second place at the state PTA convention.
The following students received both city and state Reflection Awards in the following categories:
Music: Carolyn Lovano and Christina Mills, both of Indian Trail, first place, city. Literature (Primary): Matt Webley, first place, city and state, and third place nationally; Matt Stockinger, second place, city; both attend Indian Trail.
Literature (Intermediate): Janna Morton, Sheridan, first place, city; Bethany Webley, Indian Trail, city; Literature (Junior): Christina Mills, Katie Ricketts and Danny Stockinger, first, second, and third places, respectively; all three attend Indian Trail. Photography (Primary): Stephen Matkin and Colleen Cadagan, first and second place, respectively, city; they attend Indian Trail.
Photography (Intermediate): Dani Hall and Megan Yob, both of Indian Trail, first and second, respectively, city; Photography (Junior): Erica Broadwell, Indian Trails, first, city. Visual Arts (Primary): Ryan Shontell and Matt Stockinger, both of Indian Trail, first and second, respectively. Visual Arts (Intermediate): Will French and Bethany Webley, both of Indian Trail, first and second, respectively, city; Vanessa Hamilton, Sheridan, second, city.
Visual Arts (Junior): Danny Stockinger, Indian Trail, first, city.
Mike Tillett was elected president of the Libby Learning Center. He is from the Sheridan/ Holmes Parents Teachers Association.
Others elected to the executive council were: Cori Johnston, Cooper PTA, vice president; Claudia Jensen, Sheridan PTA, treasurer; Cindy Hall, Indian Trail PTA, secretary; Nancy Thornton, Bemis PTA, hospitality chairwoman; Steve Quaid, West View PTA, special events chairman; and Kathleen Heckler, Shaw PTSA, CAC representative.
Michelle Hache, daughter of Marlene Hache, has been included in the 1996 edition of Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. She attends Jacksonville University
Bryan E. Preuss, son of Greg and Doreen Preuss, Mead, recently received his Eagle Scout award, the highest honor bestowed by the Boy Scouts.
Preuss earned his Eagle Award in 1994, while a freshman at Laguna Hills High School, Calif., but the family moved to the Inland Northwest before ceremonies could be held there. His Eagle project was to complete renovation of the baseball stadium bleachers at the California high school.
Preuss is now a a member of Troop 80, Colbert, and a junior at Mead High School.
Scott Smith, Ione, Wash., graduated from the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colo., with a degree in environmental engineering.
Smith is a 1992 graduate of Selkirk High School.
