Montana Tornado Causes No Injuries

A tornado touched down just north of here Saturday, damaging roofs, breaking windows and downing trees, Big Horn County officials said.

No injuries were reported.

“I watched it,” said dispatcher Pearl Castro. “It touched down three places that I know of and my house is one of them. I have no front windows.”

She said the siding and half the shingles on her house were damaged.

“It beat down all the crops that are around. There’s nothing left of that,” she said.

The National Weather Service said the tornado was reported at 2:35 p.m., and most of the structural damage was north of town.

Undersheriff Gary Liming said a trailer tipped over at a campground, and other campers were damaged by the hail and wind.

“Luckily, nobody was hurt that we know of yet,” he said.

The damage “seems to be mostly located right here in town and one to two miles out of town,” Liming said. The weather service also issued flash flood warnings for Colstrip, after heavy rains fell in the area.
