Roger Shearer Spokane

Vigil service for Roger W. Shearer, 79, is planned for 4 p.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Monday at St. Charles Catholic Church with burial at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Born in Spokane, Mr. Shearer died Thursday.

He played football for Gonzaga Prep and Gonzaga University and graduated from both schools.

During World War II he served with the Navy Seabees in the South Pacific.

He worked for Northern Pacific and Burlington Northern railroads for 46 years, retiring in 1982.

He had lived in Spokane for 64 years.

Mr. Shearer moved to Yakima in 1967. He returned to Spokane in 1982.

He was a member of the Sierra Club.

His wife, Patricia (Masterson) Shearer, died in 1986.

He is survived by three daughters, Nancy Bailey of Eagan, Minn., Patsy Floyd of Redmond, Wash., and Teresa Shearer of Spokane; two brothers, Emmett and Robert Shearer, both of Spokane; one sister, Kathryn Chicha of Spokane; and two grandchildren.
