Officials Identify Plane Crash Victim

From Staff And Wire Reports

The victim of a plane crash was identified Saturday as Merle David Howell, 43, of Pomeroy.

Howell was the only occupant of a stunt plane that crashed into a hillside Thursday night as it approached a private airfield near this town.

Garfield County Sheriff Larry Bowles said Howell worked as a crop duster, but was flying a plane built for acrobatics at the time of the crash.

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the accident and no cause has been determined.
