Shadow Become Host Team For Usisl Division Playoff

The Spokane Shadow, in their first full season of participation in the United Systems of Independent Soccer Leagues, will host a postseason tournament in August.

The winner of the four-team playoffs Aug. 9-10 at Spokane Falls Community College will advance to the USISL Premier League championships.

The finals will match the six division winners at Cocoa Beach, Fla., with the championship game televised nationally by Prime Sports.

“The idea of hosting a league tournament with the winner going to play for a national championship will take the awareness level of soccer in Spokane to somewhere we can all be proud of,” Shadow president Bobby Brett said. “This will present the Shadow an outstanding chance to take advantage of our home field and get to Cocoa Beach for a true national championship.”

The top four teams in the Western Conference’s Northern Division will meet in Spokane. On Saturday, Aug. 9, the top seed, which currently would be the Shadow, will meet the No. 4 team and No. 2 will play No. 3. Winners will meet on Sunday.

Tickets will go on sale July 2.

“Spokane is one of the stronger teams on the west and they have shown an ability to put on a good, entertaining game,” Scott DeBolt, director of USISL soccer operations said. “We feel the Shadow can handle three games in a two-day situation.”

The Shadow have an eight-game winning streak that has run their record to 8-2 in the Premier Division. They are 11-2 overall.

Spokane will play two games in Southern California this weekend. They return to SFCC on July 6.
