Ralph Johnston Deary, Idaho

Graveside service for Ralph B. Johnston will be today at 11 a.m. at Short’s Funeral Chapel in Moscow, Idaho.

Mr. Johnston, who was born in Moscow, died Sunday.

He grew up and attended schools in Moscow and Deary before serving in the Air Force for eight years.

After his military discharge, he moved to Montana. He returned to the Deary area in 1977 and worked as a heavy equipment operator and was recently employed as a logger.

Survivors include two sons, Steve Johnston of Florida and Vern Offt of Lewiston; one daughter, Rene Johnston of Lewiston; two stepchildren, Teresa Woods and Duane Schieffer, both of Moscow; three brothers, Fred and Carl Johnston, both of Deary, and Don Johnston of Spokane; two sisters, Glenys McPherson of Boise and Jennifer Bell of Wallowa, Ore.; his stepmother, Doris Johnston of Boise; and one grandson, Colton Johnston.

Memorials may be made to the Deary Ambulance Fund.

Hazel Holt Spokane

Service for Hazel J. Holt, 77, will be at 10:30 a.m. today at the Moran Prairie Ward, Church of Jesus Christ of Latterday Saints. Burial will be at Spokane Memorial Gardens. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Holt died Wednesday.

She was born in Hope, Idaho, and had lived in Spokane since she was an infant.

She was a homemaker and was a member of Moran Prairie Fair Board, the Western Square Dance Association and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Moran Prairie Ward.

Her husband, Arley “Bud” Holt, died in 1993.

She is survived by one granddaughter, Colleen Doctor of Spokane.

Grace (Chimienti) Pierson Spokane

Service for Grace M. (Chimienti) Pierson, 72, will be at 1 p.m. today at the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Pierson, who was born in Spokane, died Monday.

She was a homemaker and was a member of Eagles Lodge No. 2.

She is survived by a son, Rick Pierson, and one daughter, Theresa Pierson-Dunn, both of Spokane; a brother, Victor Chimienti of Spokane; a sister, Eleanor Schoultz of Spokane; five grandchildren and three stepgrandchildren.

Trevis Alsup Spokane

Visitation for Trevis T. Alsup, 23, is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral HomeSouth. Wake service will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Service is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday at Calvary Baptist Church with burial at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Mr. Alsup drowned Saturday in Sprague Lake.

He was born in Spokane and had also lived in Moses Lake.

He graduated from Ferris High School and worked at Spokane Chrysler Plymouth as an auto detailer.

He is survived by his mother, Janie Alsup of Spokane; his father, Ted Alsup of Moses Lake; and his grandparents, Pierce and Margaret Brown Jr., of Batesburg, S.C.

Annis Forrey Spokane

Visitation for Annis V. Forrey, 66, is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. today at Heritage Funeral Home. Service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Ms. Forrey, who died Tuesday, was born in High Hill, Wash.

She graduated from Washington State University and worked for the state department of licensing for 25 years. She was a 35-year Spokane resident.

She is survived by a brother, Raymond Forrey of Colfax, Wash.; and two sisters, Verne Wehmeyer of Cashmere, Wash., and Vida Johnson of Chelan, Wash.

John Knudtson Spokane

Memorial service for John Kenneth Knudtson, 83, is planned for 2 p.m. today at Grace Baptist Church. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Knudtson, who died Tuesday, was born in Kellogg.

He worked as a body and fender man for the Appleway Automotive group and was a member of the Machinists Union.

He had lived in Spokane for more than 52 years and worked as a logger early in life.

He was a member of the American Association of Retired Persons, and had been in the Merchant Marines.

He is survived by his wife, Imogene Knudtson; a daughter, Joanne Rasmussen of Spokane; two sons, Al Knudtson of Deer Park and Ken Knudtson of Camano Island, Wash.; two half-brothers, Donald Boro of Seattle and Richard Boro of Portland; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Richard ‘Buns’ Lee Spokane

Graveside service for Richard W. “Buns” Lee, 61, will be at 1 p.m. today at Fairmount Memorial Park. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Spokane, Mr. Lee died Tuesday.

He worked as a lineman for GTE for more than 22 years.

He was a member of the Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church and the Telephone Pioneers.

He is survived by two sons, David and Richard Lee, both of Spokane; two daughters, Anna Sonsalla of Spokane and Meshia Kroetch of Post Falls; his mother, Helen Lee of Spokane; and nine grandchildren.

Frank Kjolseth Chewelah, Wash.

Service for Frank Kjolseth, 82, will be at 10 a.m. today at Schanzenbach Funeral Home in Chewelah. Burial will follow at Mountain View Park Cemetery in Colville, Wash.

Mr. Kjolseth, who died Tuesday, was born in Bluecreek, Wash.

He was a real estate broker and lived in the Chewelah area all his life.

He was a member of the Free Methodist Church in Chewelah.

Mr. Kjolseth is survived by two sons, Terry Kjolseth of Colbert and Dan Kjolseth of Spokane; two daughters, Madeline and Betty Kjolseth, both of Olympia; a brother, George Kjolseth of Colville; 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

June Cooper Spokane

Memorial service for June W. Cooper, 80, will be held at a later date. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Cooper, who was born in Winston-Salem, N.C., died Tuesday.

She had lived in Spokane since 1983.

Her husband, Thomas Cooper, preceded her in death.

She is survived by two sons, William and Phillip Cooper, both of Spokane; six grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

Betty McNearney Newport, Ore.

Private service was held for Betty Mae McNearney, 72, at Spokane Memorial Gardens. Bateman Funeral Home in Newport is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. McNearney died Friday at the Yaquina Care Center in Newport.

She was born in Kettle Falls, Wash., and graduated from Colville (Wash.) High School.

In 1943, she married Thomas “Cal” McNearney in Vancouver. He died in 1985.

She was a homemaker and had lived in Spokane for 41 years. She moved to Oregon six years ago.

Survivors include a daughter, Judy Self of Lincoln City, Ore.; a brother, Donald Hughes of Deer Lake, Wash.; a sister, Wilma Leithead of Spokane; and a grandson.

Memorial contributions may be made to the National Alzheimer’s Research Foundation.

John Anderson Republic, Wash.

Service for John A. Anderson, 78, was Tuesday at Republic Presbyterian Church. Burial was at Republic Cemetery.

Mr. Anderson, who died June 19 at Mid Valley Hospital in Omak, Wash., was born in Republic.

He graduated from Republic High School and began working at the Anderson Grocery Store in 1935. He retired from the family store in 1976.

He entered the Army in 1941 and served during World War II.

Mr. Anderson was a trap shooter and had recently won the Washington State Seniors Championships.

He was a member of the Republic Volunteer Fire Department, Republic Gun Club and the Republic American Legion.

He is survived by two brothers, Dean Anderson of Republic and Roy Anderson of Spokane; and three sisters, Elsie McFarland, Bernadine Lofsted and Marian Wetzel, all of Seattle.
