Miller, Moceanu Make It

Compiled From Wire Services

Shannon Miller and Dominique Moceanu are on the Olympic team, and the gymnastics trials aren’t even over yet.

Miller, the national champion, and Moceanu aren’t competing due to injuries, so their scores from the nationals will determine if they make the team. Bela Karolyi, Moceanu’s coach, said after the compulsory round that mathematically, Moceanu and Miller are on the team if they’re healthy.

Even if the top seven competing in the trials score perfect 10s during Sunday’s optionals, it would not be enough to knock Miller and Moceanu off the team, he said. Seven girls will go to Atlanta.

In the competition to determine the other five team members, Jaycie Phelps drilled her final two routines to take a slight lead. She scored 46.887 points. Dominique Dawes was second with 46.768 points.
