Davis Quits WSU To Enter Nfl Draft
Chad Davis ended Washington State University’s quarterback controversy by withdrawing from school Thursday to enter the NFL draft.
The team was divided last season over whether Davis or redshirt freshman Ryan Leaf should be the starter. Leaf started the final two games of the season, and coach Mike Price had indicated that Leaf would be the starter heading into spring drills.
“We sincerely wish him the best of luck in his new career and in all his future endeavors and encourage him to continue his education at a later date,” Price said in a news release.
Davis, a senior from San Diego, transferred to WSU from Oklahoma in 1993 and sat out that season under NCAA transfer rules.
In 1994, he threw for 1,868 yards and 12 touchdowns and led the Cougars to the Alamo Bowl, where he was named the most valuable player in directing a 10-3 victory over Baylor.
He started the first nine games of the 1995 season. But Leaf took over during a game against California, then started the final two games,
In his career, the 6-foot-2, 200-pound Davis threw for 4,167 yards with 22 touchdowns and 14 interceptions.
