Man Trashes Would-Be Robber

A 61-year-old man taking the garbage out at a Spokane business early Thursday thwarted a robbery attempt by a knife-wielding teenager.

The man was walking to the Dumpster behind a business at Washington Street and Indiana Avenue about 1 a.m. when a teenager demanded money from him.

The man swung the sack of garbage at the teen, hitting him in the face. The blow knocked the teen to the ground and the knife out of his hand.

Warning the teen not to get up, the man collected the garbage and the knife. He then got in his truck and drove off.

The man later reported the robbery attempt to police and turned in the knife.

Police are looking for the teen, who is about 17 years old, thin, and has brown hair. He was wearing a leather coat and jeans.
