Young Hacker Faces Trespass Charges

From Staff And Wire Reports

A Garfield High School student will be charged in juvenile court with computer trespassing in connection with unauthorized access into a Minnesota library system, the King County Prosecutor’s Office said Monday.

Unauthorized access to the Ramsey County Library was gained on Feb. 15. The hacker left several messages challenging authorities to discover his identity. Authorities said access was gained through deciphering encrypted access codes.

Prosecutors said the 15-year-old student is not a suspect in two recent King County Library hacking incidents that shut down the system and caused more than $200,000 in damage.

The teen faces up to 150 hours of community service, ten hours of counseling and a $100 fine.
