Commissioners Set Aside Expansion Idea
Spokane County commissioners Tuesday tabled indefinitely a proposal to expand the commission from three members to five.
There just wasn’t any interest outside a business group in the Spokane Valley, commissioners said.
Voters rejected the expansion idea in November 1991 by a nearly 2-1 margin, but the Spokane Valley Business Association urged commissioners to place it on the fall ballot. Commissioners are overworked and serve too many constituents, the group said.
“I need to see a little more enthusiasm,” Commissioner Steve Hasson said.
The estimated salary and benefits for two new commissioners and their secretaries would be $206,000 a year. There also would be capital costs to relocate the commission office to larger space or to expand the existing office. , DataTimes
