Greenback Gains Ground

The dollar gained against leading currencies Wednesday and found strength against the German mark on news that suggested German interest rates may come down.

Against the Japanese yen, the dollar moved higher mostly on the momentum of recent advances.

By 4 p.m. in New York, the dollar was quoted at 105.40 yen, up from 105.25 yen late Tuesday. The dollar was changing hands at 1.4770 marks, up from 1.4758 marks.
