Snow Sport Report

Compiled By Vince Dice

Alpine skiing

Just when you thought the season was over, winter returned with a bang. Silver, Lookout, Mt. Spokane and others reported 20 new inches.

Schweitzer’s quad lift is closed temporarily due to a manufacturer-requested inspection, which could cause longer lines on remaining lifts. Grandparents may want to brave those lines, however, to go to Grand Day March 9. Grandparents accompanied by their grandchildren 7 or older get half-price lift tickets. Info - (208)-263-0775.

Nordic skiing

Mt. Spokane is trying to dig its way out from the 25 new inches it received last week. It groomed Thursday for the first time this week, and hoped to have tracks set today.

Priest Lake State Park has dismantled its trail systems, due to lack of interest and marginal conditions. Die-hards can still ski, but trails won’t be marked or groomed again this season.

Once again, Newport says this is its last weekend of the season. Groomer problems limited them to partial grooming, and only parts of their trails are tracked. Hurry, though, some spots will melt soon.

Snowmobiling

Snowmobiling is as good as can be expected for March. Priest Lake has enough snow to ride near the lake; Mt. Spokane continues to groom and gush about great snow; and Beaver Lodge has 5-6 inches of powder on most of its trails, with Kalispell trail highly recommended.
