Drive-By Shatters Tavern’s Window

From Staff And Wire Reports

Police were called to the Swamp Tavern for the second night in a row Saturday after gunshots shattered the front window.

A car drove by the tavern, 1904 W. Fifth, just before 11 p.m. Saturday. The bartender heard two shots and the front window shattered.

Several customers were in the bar at the time, but nobody was hurt.

Police were called to the Swamp twice on Friday. Two drunken women were thrown out after threatening customers with a knife just before midnight. A half-hour later, a man who said he was the boyfriend of one of the women tried to hit the bartender with a baseball bat.

Mark B. Strawbridge, 27, of the 1600 block of West Main, was arrested.

Police said they did not know if Saturday’s drive-by shooting and the fights were connected.
