Charles ‘Mike’ Waggoner Spokane

Graveside service for Charles M. “Mike” Waggoner, 94, will be at 1 p.m. today at Hunt Cemetery in Kingston, Idaho. Heritage Funeral Home in Spokane is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Waggoner, a former Kellogg resident, died Sunday in a Spokane hospital. He was born in Post Falls and graduated from high school there.

In 1924 he married Allene Brown in Coeur d’Alene and they moved to Kellogg in 1927.

In 1940 Mr. Waggoner founded the Twin City Fuel Co., which he operated until 1973.

His wife, Allene, died in 1971.

He married Mildred (Reynolds) Peck in 1971 in Coeur d’Alene. They lived in Kellogg before moving to Spokane in 1994.

He had served on the Kellogg City Council and was a booster of Kellogg High School. He was also a member of the Kellogg Elks Lodge and the Shoshone Golf and Tennis Club.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Wilma “Billie” Shewmaker of Osburn, Idaho, Allene “Bobbie” Henry of Spokane and Cathy Stout of Monroe, N.C.; one stepdaughter, Barbara Johnson of Spokane; six grandchildren, six stepgrandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, one stepgreat-grandson and one great-great-granddaughter.

Elizabeth Detmer Spokane

Vigil service for Elizabeth E. “Betty” Detmer, 74, is planned for 5:30 p.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Peter Catholic Church.

Born in Leavenworth, Wash., Mrs. Detmer, died Friday.

She graduated from North Central High School and was a homemaker.

She was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary and was a volunteer at Morning Star Boys Ranch.

Mrs. Detmer is survived by her husband Maynard “Doc” Detmer; two sons, Larry Detmer of Oakland, Calif., and Craig Detmer of Sumner, Wash.; and one granddaughter.

Memorial Contributions may be made to the St. Peter Catholic Church Building Fund.

Carl Knoles Spokane

Memorial service for Carl S. Knoles, 79, was Monday at Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home. Inurnment will be at a later date at Fairmount Memorial Park. Mr. Knoles, who was born in Vancouver, Wash., died Friday.

He graduated from high school in Bonners Ferry, Idaho. He moved to Spokane in 1934 and married Ella Read in 1935.

He worked for Frisbee Syrup Co. from 1935 until 1940 and for Inland Casket Co. from 1940 until 1944.

During World War II, he worked for Naval Supply.

He later worked as a carpenter with Carpenters Union Local 98 and retired in 1973.

In 1989 he and his wife moved to Seattle to manage apartment complexes. They returned to Spokane in February.

Mr. Knoles had volunteered with Bloomsday since it began in 1977. He was a member of the Radio Community Watch CB Club and was Channel 3 vice president. He was a member of the Mormon Church.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, June; two daughters, Barbara Winnett of Spokane and Shirley Atchison of Cheney; one son, Richard Knoles of Lake Oswego, Ore.; three brothers, one sister, nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

James Ingram Deer Park

No service will be held for James Issac Ingram, 80. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Faison, N.C., Mr. Ingram died March 6.

He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II and worked for Clark Equipment for 32 years before retiring in 1985.

He is survived by his wife, Dorthy Ingram; one son, Jimmy Ingram of Deer Park; one daughter, Judy Triplet of Spokane; one sister, Elizabeth Yopp of Sneads Ferry, N.C.; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Chris Greenwalt Ritzville, Wash.

Service for Chris L. Greenwalt, 54, is set for 11 a.m. today at Philadelphia Congregational Church in Ritzville. Burial will follow at Ritzville Memorial Cemetery. Danekas Funeral Home in Ritzville is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Greenwalt, who died Saturday, was born in Ritzville.

He had worked as a mechanic and at an aluminum plant in The Dalles, Ore. He moved to Spokane in 1966 and worked for Comet Trailers. He returned to Ritzville and worked for Ritzville Farmers Supply. In 1970 he began working for the Adams County Road Department and later became road foreman for the Lind, Wash., area. He retired in 1987 due to a disability.

Mr. Greenwalt was a member of Philadelphia Congregational Church and Ritzville Eagles Lodge No. 2739.

Survivors include one stepdaughter, Jolie Copelin of Ritzville; two stepsons, Kevin Copelin and Leon Johnson, both of Ritzville; his mother, Ellen Greenwalt of Ritzville; one sister, Cheryl Greenwalt of Spokane; one brother, Curtis Greenwalt of Spangle; and two grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Ritzville Emergency Medical Technicians and Ambulance Fund.

Linda Senter Medical Lake

Memorial service for Linda G. Senter, 47, will be at 3 p.m. today at Ball and Dodd Medical Lake Funeral Home.

Born in Vancouver, Wash., Mrs. Senter died Sunday.

She graduated from North Central High School and worked as a nurses’ aide at Sacred Heart Hospital during the 1960s and 1970s. In 1975 she became a claims adjuster for State Farm Insurance.

She is survived by one daughter, Denise Ashley of Spokane; her parents, Fred and Lonnie White of Spokane; two brothers, Frederick White of Spokane and Craig White of Sutherlin, Ore.; one sister, Deanna Realing of Spokane; and three grandchildren.

Barry ‘Buck’ Rodgers Spokane

Service for Barry “Buck” Rodgers, 55, is planned for 2 p.m. today at Riplinger Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Born in Seattle, Mr. Rodgers died Sunday.

He had served in the Army for three years and had worked for J.C. Penney in the management training program.

He had lived in Spokane for 25 years and worked as a field representative for the Bureau of Mines. He retired in 1979 due to poor health.

Survivors include his wife of 20 years, Sandra Rodgers; one brother, Steven Rodgers of Cheney; and two sisters, Susan White of Edmonds, Wash., and Timilie Schons of Woodinville, Wash.

Ellen Elliott Potlatch, Idaho

Memorial service for Ellen I. Elliott, 90, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Freeze Cemetery north of Potlatch, Idaho. Kramer Funeral Home in Palouse is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Elliott died last Wednesday. She was born at her grandparents’ home near Diamond, Wash.

In 1926 she married John Elliott in Colfax, Wash., and in 1936 they moved to the East Cove area near Potlatch, where they farmed until 1954.

Her husband died in 1971.

Mrs. Elliott went to work as a housekeeper at Gritman Medical Center in Moscow, Idaho, in 1969. She later worked at the Latah Convalescent Center in Moscow for 13 years before retiring in 1984.

She was a member of the Kennedy Ford Grange, Potlatch Ponderosa Senior Citizens Club, Potlatch Working Women’s Club, Gritman Medical Center Auxiliary and the Widows’ Pinochle Club.

Survivors include two sons, Francis “Bud” Elliott of Deer Park and Bill Elliott of Moscow; two daughters, Lavern Jones of Spokane and Norma Horn of Potlatch; one sister, Joyce Downey of Colfax; 12 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Potlatch Ambulance Fund.

James Prater Hauser Lake, Idaho

Service for James Gordon Garver Prater, 77, will be Thursday at 11 a.m. at Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene. Burial will follow at Riverside Cemetery in Spokane.

Mr. Prater, who was born in Deer Park, died Sunday.

He was raised and educated in Bend, Ore., graduating from high school there. He went on to attend Benson Technical Vocational School in Portland.

He later worked in the timber industry and was also a trapper. He was in the fly rod and commercial fly-tying business.

He served with the Navy and was discharged in 1946 as machinist mate 2nd class and was decorated with numerous citations.

He worked for Consolidated Freight for 31 years, retiring in 1979. He moved to Hauser Lake in 1981.

Mr. Prater loved fly fishing, hunting, bowling, dancing and playing the piano. He was a 30-year member of the Eagles Lodge.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Arlene, in 1979.

Survivors include his wife of 14 years, Mildred; four daughters, Darlene King of West Virginia, Pamela Pope and Cheryl Kothbauer, both of Hayden Lake, Idaho, and Susan Bergstrom of Sprague, Wash.; two sons, James Prater Jr. of St. Maries and Richard Prater of Hayden Lake; three stepchildren, Gary Briant of Post Falls, Charles Briant of Helena and Patricia Elliot of Libby, Mont.; two brothers, Lyle of Eugene, Ore. and Ronald of Burlington, Wash.; one sister, Delores Jones of Oregon; 14 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and three stepgrandchildren.

Gladys LaSarte Worley, Idaho

Funeral Mass for Gladys Theresa Bonmache LaSarte, 72, was Monday at Sacred Heart Mission Church in DeSmet, Idaho. Burial was at DeSmet Mission Cemetery.

Born in DeSmet, Mrs. LaSarte died Saturday.

She was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years, David LaSarte Sr.; two sons, Joe and Victor LaSarte; two brothers, Dave and Leonard Freelander; four sisters, Stella, Luella, Viola and Genevieve; and eight grandchildren.

Jeanette ‘Jennie’ Burger Spokane

Graveside service for Jeanette M. “Jennie” Burger, 91, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Riplinger Funeral Home.

Mrs. Burger, a 54-year Spokane resident, died Saturday. She was born in Gardena, N.D.

She had worked as a cook at several restaurants, including Mother’s Kitchen and Casey’s Restaurant, and also at nursing homes.

She is survived by one son, Jerald Burger of Spokane; one daughter, Joyce White of Kettle Falls, Wash.; one brother, LeRoy Whetter of Everett; four sisters, Florence Johnson of Everett, Francis Hoff of Tacoma, Cecil Warn of Lead, S.D., and Muriel Johnson of Sacramento, Calif.; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

William Hostetler Spokane

Memorial service for William E. “Bill” Hostetler, 78, was Monday at Sunset Mausoleum Chapel at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mr. Hostetler, who died Friday, was born in Spokane.

He graduated from Lewis and Clark High School and had lived in Spokane for 35 years.

He worked as a technician in the research mining field for W.R. Grace for 21 years.

He was a member of the Valley Cross Trailors Square Dance Club for 12 years.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Winnifred Hostetler; one son, Dennis Hostetler of Collinsville, Ill.; two daughters, Gayle Henderson of Mission Viejo, Calif., and Janice Hostetler of Bellevue, Wash.; one sister, Betty Scott of Ione, Wash.; five grandchildren and two great-granddaughters.

John Baldwin Spokane

Memorial service for John R. “Jack” Baldwin, 76, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Private inurnment will be at Spokane Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Baldwin, who was born in Seattle, died March 2.

He had lived in Spokane for 44 years.

Mr. Baldwin was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and served with the 2nd Marine Division in the Pacific Theater during World War II and during the Korean War.

His wife, Lavona Baldwin, died in 1992.

He is survived by one son, Robert Baldwin of Spokane; and two granddaughters.

Gerda Jacobsen Spokane

Service for Gerda Jacobsen will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Heritage Funeral Home. Burial will be at Riverside Memorial Park.

Mrs. Jacobsen, 97, died Friday. She was born in Germany.

She had lived in Spokane for many years. When her husband, Fred Jacobsen, died in 1966, she moved to Prunedale, Calif., to be near her daughter.

She is survived by two daughters, Gloria Willis of Prunedale and Donna Mengert of Carefree, Ariz.; seven grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Elmer Christensen Wilbur, Wash.

Service for Elmer H. Christensen, 79, was Monday at Wilbur Lutheran Church. Burial was at the Wilbur Cemetery.

Mr. Christensen, who died Thursday, was a lifetime Wilbur resident.

He was a wheat farmer.

He was an associate member of the Wilbur Veterans of Foreign Wars, and a member of Wheat Ridge Grange and Wilbur Lutheran Church.

He is survived by three sisters, Ellen Ferguson of Woodland, Wash., Irene DeWitt of Enumclaw, Wash., and Ruth Eagle of Wilbur.

DuWayne Doran Great Falls, Mont.

Service for DuWayne G. Doran, 68, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Steward and Williams Funeral Home in Ellensburg. Burial will be at the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Ellensburg.

Mr. Doran died Friday from cancer, in Great Falls, where he had moved earlier this year. He was born in Breckenridge, Minn.

He graduated from Shelby (Mont.) High School and served in the Army Air Corps for two years.

He farmed with his parents in Toole County, Mont., until 1956. In 1957 he built an A & W restaurant in Ellensburg next to his parents’ Star Motel and in 1964 opened a Mary Carter paint store in Yakima.

In 1968 he moved to Spokane and became a real estate broker.

He is survived by one brother, Leonard Doran of Great Falls.

Harvey Ashburn Cheney

Service for Harvey L. Ashburn, 83, was Monday at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-Cheney. Burial was at Spokane Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Ashburn, who died Thursday, was born Livingston, Tenn.

He moved to Spokane in 1954 and then he and his wife, Faye, moved to Cheney and operated The College Inn and Rollie’s Cafe. They later moved to Odessa, Wash. His wife died in the mid-1970s.

Mr. Ashburn returned to Cheney and worked as a cook at the Fireside Restaurant, now known as Willow Springs Restaurant.

He was a member of the Cheney Lions Club.

He is survived by his companion, Hazel Camp of Cheney; three sisters, Mildred Earley and Nora Poetecte, both of Oklahoma City, and Berlene Baker of Texhoma, Okla.; two stepchildren and several grandchildren.
