Dollar Drifts Slightly Lower

The dollar fell slightly against most major currencies in choppy trading Wednesday as U.S. financial markets settled down following days of wide swings.

By 4 p.m. in New York, the dollar was quoted at 105.10 Japanese yen, down from 105.25 yen late Tuesday, and 1.4703 German marks, down from 1.4745.

There was little in the way of economic or political developments Wednesday to change prevailing sentiments in currency markets.

Analysts said traders still were reacting to last Friday’s report of surprising strength in the U.S. job market, which dashed hopes for further cuts in American interest rates.
