City Is Hosting Series Of Meetings On Spokane’s Future

Kristina Johnson, Staff Writer

The city is hosting a series of meetings designed to find out what residents want Spokane to look like in 20 years.

Spokane Horizons - a program aimed at planning the city’s future - begins the second of a four-year planning process Tuesday, with a 6:30 p.m. meeting at Shadle Park High School.

“We need people who have enough interest in Spokane’s future to spend a little time helping us design it,” said Charlie Dotson, the city’s planning director.

The program’s aim is to get residents involved in solving problems facing the city, such as increased population, higher housing costs, more traffic and new social issues.

“We want people to use their imaginations,” Dotson said.

The series of eight meetings takes place: Tuesday, 6:30 p.m., Shadle High School, 4327 N. Ash; Thursday, 5:30 p.m., Rogers High School, 1622 E. Wellesley; March 26, 6:30 p.m., East Central Community Center, 500 S. Stone; March 28, 5:30 p.m., North Central High School, 1600 N. Howard; April 2, 6:30 p.m., Ferris High School, 3020 E. 37th; April 3, 1:30 p.m., Downtown Library, 906 W. Main; April 4, 5:30 p.m., Roosevelt Elementary School. Special city-wide meeting, April 24, 6:30 p.m., downtown Agricultural Trade Center.
