Raptor Center Project To Begin
Birds of prey enthusiasts will kick off efforts today to build a raptor rehabilitation center at Farragut State Park.
The Farragut Cooperating Association will meet from 3:30 to 5 p.m. at the headquarters of the Idaho Fish and Game and Parks and Recreation departments, 2750 Kathleen Ave. The public is invited.
The center would provide a place where sick and injured owls, falcons, hawks, ospreys and eagles can be rehabilitated. It’s also planned as a setting where people can develop an appreciation for the birds and learn how to prevent raptor injuries.
To launch the project, the association has received one of 54 challenge grants from the Phillips Environmental Partnerships program. A check for $4,871 will be presented at the meeting.
The association must raise $2,000 locally to fulfill the grant requirements. Donations of cash and construction materials, as well as volunteer time, are being sought. For information contact Ranger Tami Johnson at Farragut State Park, (208) 683-2425, Ext. 27.
