Auto Feud Rekindled

Compiled From Wire Services

The Indianapolis Motor Speedway has canceled a licensing agreement that allowed Championship Auto Racing Teams to use the name “IndyCar” for its race series.

It’s the latest volley in the feud between CART and the new Indy Racing League, which was formed by IMS president Tony George and will run the second event on its five-race series this weekend at Phoenix.

Most of the top Indy drivers remained aligned with CART, which has scheduled a race at Michigan on May 26, the same day as the Indianapolis 500. An IMS spokesman said the licensing agreement included a requirement that at least half the CART drivers compete in the Indy 500.
