Moscow Man Top Sportsman For N. Idaho

Moscow’s Clint Rand has been named the 1995 North Idaho sportsman of the year, Idaho Hall of Fame officials announced.

Rand is a leader in the Idaho Department of Fish and Game’s anti-poaching program. He also coordinates hunter safety programs.

Rand will receive the Gar Anderson Memorial Award at the Idaho Sports Banquet on March 30 at The Coeur d’Alene Resort. Anderson was a prominent CdA sportsman.

Hisaw heads overseas

Former Idaho football quarterback Eric Hisaw has committed to play for a semipro team in Italy.

Hisaw will make $400 per week, plus free housing and use of a car.

Hisaw will leave immediately, meaning he’ll also be quitting the Idaho track team. Hisaw, a Cheney High graduate, won the 55-meter hurdles at the Big Sky indoor meet.

He led UI to a 6-5 record last season.

Israeli team to visit NIC

The North Idaho College men’s basketball team will play an exhibition game against Hapoel Galil, an Israeli pro team, Nov. 7 in Coeur d’Alene.

Last season, NIC lost 81-78 to the Suns of Townsville, Australia, in an entertaining game. Hapoel Galil probably is better than Townsville, retiring NIC coach Rolly Williams said, and will play an area tour similar to Townsville’s last year (Gonzaga, Washington State, etc.).

Williams said he is close to finalizing fields for a pair of home tournaments. Nov. 15-16, NIC will host Western Montana, Miles (Mont.) College and an undetermined opponent.

Nov. 29-30, NIC will hook up with Spokane, Palomar (San Marcos, Calif.) and an undetermined opponent.

NIC lands transfer

Ann Shepard, a former Post Falls High basketball player, intends to transfer from Division II Montana State-Billings to North Idaho College next season.

Shepard, a forward/center, will have one year of eligibility at NIC.
