Arson Fire Destroys Spokane Valley Home

From Staff And Wire Reports

Fire ripped a Spokane Valley woman’s house Saturday night, destroying a home that had been in her family for six decades.

The fire appears to have been intentionally set, said Dave Lobdell, Valley Fire District assistant chief. Fire investigators found evidence of an accelerant, such as gasoline.

Flames engulfed the rear of the house at 4108 N. Willow Rd. when firefighters arrived about 6 p.m., Lobdell said. Firefighters battled the blaze for nearly an hour before they could extinguish it.

The house has been vacant for several months and was in the process of being remodeled, said owner Karen Zaidi. She had just put a new roof on it.

The house previously belonged to Zaidi’s grandmother. Her granddaughter also was born in the house, Zaidi said.

“It’s kind of hard to see it burn down,” she said.
