Obituaries

Bert Schroepfer Spokane

No service will be held for Bert J. Schroepfer, 81. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Schroepfer, who died Sunday, was born in Minnesota.

He served in the Army during World War II and, following the war, settled in Seattle.

He and his wife moved to Spokane 30 years ago. He worked as a salesman for Hormel for 30 years and retired in 1977.

He was a member of the senior men’s bowling league in Spokane for many years.

Mr. Schroepfer is survived by his wife of 51 years, Marie (Boldman) Schroepfer; one daughter, Susan Putman of San Diego; one son, Stan Schrofer of San Clemente, Calif.; four brothers, Donald, Jerry, Cy and Ben Schroepfer, all of Minnesota; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association.

Dorothea Winebarger Post Falls

Memorial service for Dorothea Winebarger, 83, will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the McGuire Wesleyan Church in Post Falls. Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Winebarger, who was born in Great Falls, Mont., died Jan. 31. She graduated from Coeur d’Alene High School and later moved to Post Falls and owned a produce farm. She moved to Portland during World War II and worked as a welder in the shipyards.

She returned to Post Falls after the war and owned Harold’s Recreation. She later lived in Nevada and Montana before returning to Post Falls in 1973.

Mrs. Winebarger was preceded in death by two husbands, C.H. Breeding and Rom Winebarger. Survivors include two sons, George Breeding of Spokane and Jack Winebarger of Las Vegas, Nev.; two daughters, Irene Moore of Las Vegas and Mary Sue Kehoe of California; one brother, Willard Largent of Hayden Lake, Idaho; and several grandchildren.

Robert LaFontaine Spokane

Visitation for Robert M. “Bob” LaFontaine, 66, is scheduled from noon to 8 p.m. Thursday at Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home. Graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Riverside Memorial Park.

Mr. LaFontaine, who was born in Spokane, died Monday.

He graduated from Central Valley High School and served in the Navy from 1946 to 1948.

In 1948 he married Beverly Butte in Spokane.

He had worked for Warren, Little and Lund Plumbing and Heating for many years as a plumber.

He and his son, Bob LaFontaine, operated Normex, an excavating and site utilities company for 15 years. He retired in 1993.

He was a member of Plumbers and Steamfitters Union Local No. 44.

Mr. LaFontaine is survived by his wife of 47 years, Beverly; one daughter, Peggy Mitchell of Spokane; one son, Bob LaFontaine of Nine Mile Falls; and four grandchildren.

Olive Blomgren Edwall, Wash.

Visitation for Olive M. Blomgren, 86, is scheduled from 2 to 8 p.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-Cheney. Service will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at Cheney United Methodist Church with burial at Washtucna (Wash.) Cemetery.

Mrs. Blomgren, who died Monday, was born in Othello, Wash.

She received a teaching certificate from Washington State College and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa.

She had lived in Edwall for 53 years and was a homemaker.

She was a 50-year member of the Waukon Grange and Edwall Methodist Church.

Her husband, Walter Blomgren, died in 1989.

Mrs. Blomgren is survived by two sons, Stephen Blomgren of Cheney and David Blomgren of Edwall; one brother, Dwayne Blankenship of Washtucna; three grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or Washington State University.

Dallas Henneigh Cheney

Visitation for Dallas F. Henneigh, 86, is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North. Service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mr. Henneigh, who died Monday, was born in Pomeroy, Wash.

He had worked on many farms and in road construction as a heavy equipment operator. He moved to Cheney 55 years ago.

In Cheney, he worked as an attendant at Lakeland Village in Medical Lake for 24 years. He retired in 1974.

He was a member of the Four Corners Grange and Cheney Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

His wife of 48 years, Ina Henneigh, died in 1982.

Mr. Henneigh is survived by one son, Edwin Henneigh of Condor, Alberta; one stepson, Marvin Powell of Walla Walla; one brother, L.J. “Skeeter” Henneigh of Coulee City, Wash.; and 10 grandchildren.

Leola MacIntyre Milton-Freewater, Ore.

Graveside service for Leola M. MacIntyre, 86, will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Fairmount Memorial Park in Spokane. Munselle-Rhoades Funeral Home in Milton-Freewater is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. MacIntyre, a former longtime Spokane resident, died Monday. She was born in Mold, Wash., and graduated from high school in Fairview, Wash.

She married Cecil Wittner, and he preceded her in death.

In 1950 she married Robert MacIntyre, and they settled in Spokane. He died in 1960.

Mrs. MacIntyre lived in Spokane for many years and moved to MiltonFreewater in 1992.

She is survived by three daughters, Marjorie Waggoner of Milton-Freewater, Ethel Brock of Spokane and Frederika Wetterhus of Colbert; two sons, Earle Wittner of Spokane and Robert MacIntyre of Ione, Calif.; 19 grandchildren 35 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Ruth Doughty Coeur d’Alene

No local service is planned for Ruth Doughty, 71. English Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Doughty, who was born in Saskatchewan, died Sunday. She moved to the Coeur d’Alene area in 1990 and was a homemaker.

Mrs. Doughty enjoyed gardening, ceramics and cooking and was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church in Coeur d’Alene.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles. Survivors include two sons, Ronald of Auburn, Wash., and Robert of Homedale, Idaho; one daughter, Danette Teter of Coeur d’Alene; and two sisters, Emaline Swank of Anchorage, Alaska, and Jacqueline Deacon of Purdy, Wash.

Lillian Kennedy Spokane

Vigil service for Lillian “Lil” Kennedy, 68, will be at 7 p.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North. Funeral Mass is set for 11 a.m. Friday at St. Thomas More Catholic Church.

Mrs. Kennedy, who died Tuesday, was born in Ashland, Calif.

She graduated from high school in Oakland and married Patrick Kennedy in 1947.

She was a homemaker and moved to Spokane in 1980.

She was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church, Spokane Country Club, Women of Rotary-Club 21, and the Women’s Auxiliary of the Washington State Fire Commissioners Association.

She is survived by her husband; three daughters, Patricia Kennedy of Bartlett, Ill., Deborah Magee of Moraga, Calif., and Margaret Kennedy of Phoenix, Ariz.; two sons, Daniel Kennedy of Newport Beach, Calif., and Michael Kennedy of Marriottsville, Md.; three sisters, Victoria Onstad of San Ramon, Calif., Lucy Sanchez of San Leandro, Calif., and Dutchy Bates of Escondido, Calif.; one brother, Angelo Isquirdo of Castro Valley, Calif.; and six grandchildren.

John Bossio Spokane

Service for John A. Bossio, 67, will be at 10 a.m. Friday at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Mr. Bossio, who died Saturday, was a lifetime Spokane resident.

He had worked as a mechanic for A-1 Towing, Buchanan Chevrolet and Murphy Bros. Construction.

He was a member of the Northwest Stock Car Association, the Disabled American Veterans and North Addison Baptist church.

Mr. Bossio served in the Army as a paratrooper during World War II.

Mr. Bossio is survived by his wife of 45 years, Helena Bossio; two sons, John Bossio of Spokane and David Bossio of Otis Orchards; one daughter, Lenore “Putt” Hicks of Chattaroy; six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Betty Davis Mesa, Ariz.

Memorial service for Betty I. Davis, 78, was Wednesday at Mountain View Memorial Gardens Mortuary in Mesa.

Mrs. Davis, a former Spokane resident, died Sunday in Scottsdale, Ariz.

She was born in El Paso, Texas, and had lived in Spokane from 1963 until 1987. She worked as a retail cosmetic clerk. She moved to Mesa in 1987.

She was a member of Beta Sigma Phi and the Spokane Country Club.

She is survived by her husband, Gerald; two daughters, Sharon Gill of Las Vegas, Nev., and Jeannie Critchfield of Scottsdale; one son, Jerry “Bud” Davis of Nine Mile Falls; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Mildred ‘Midge’ Beckley Waterville, Wash.

Memorial service for Mildred “Midge” Beckley, 69, will be at 3 p.m. Friday at Wenatchee Free Methodist Church. Waterville Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Beckley, a former Lind, Wash., resident, died Tuesday. She was born in Lamar, Colo.

She graduated from high school in Oregon and married Arden Beckley in Parma, Idaho, in 1949. The couple farmed in Parma until 1951, when they moved to Prineville, Ore.

In 1967 they moved to Lind, where Mrs. Beckley drove a school bus for 13 years. They moved to Waterville in 1985, and she drove a school bus there for nine years.

She was a member of Wenatchee Free Methodist Church.

Mrs. Beckley is survived by her husband; three sons, Jeffery Beckley of Cranbrook, British Columbia, Gregory Beckley of Denison, Texas, and Kelly Beckley of Spokane; three daughters, Cynthia Quarles of Salem, Ore., and Penny Brown and Jill Moomaw, both of Waterville; two sisters, Joyce Hall of Parma and Anna Byers of Ontario, Ore.; and 14 grandchildren.

Phillip Johannes Rathdrum, Idaho

Memorial service for Phillip Edward Johannes, 79, will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at East Valley Presbyterian Church in Otis Orchards. Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Johannes, who was born in North Dakota, died Saturday.

He had lived in the Spokane area for many years prior to moving to Rathdrum. He had served in the Civilian Conservation Corps in North Dakota and had worked for several railroad, retiring from Burlington Northern in 1976.

Mr. Johannes enjoyed traveling, gardening and woodworking. He was a member of the East Valley Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Gladys; two sons, Phillip Jr. of Greenacres and James of Idaho; three daughters, Phyllis Porter of Spokane, Jean Kjos of Rathdrum and Charlotte Jones of Newport, Wash.; two sisters, Mary Zimmerman of North Dakota and Lucille Albrecht of Montana; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
