Poster Contest Winners Have Work Displayed
Notice Spokane’s new crop of unique billboards?
Some winners of the poison prevention poster contest have had their art work enlarged - greatly - and displayed for all to see.
The contest was sponsored locally by the Deaconess Poison Prevention and Education Center at Community Colleges. Some 3,335 students in the third, fourth and fifth grades entered the contest.
The winners and their schools are:
Third grade: Dylan Gray, Chattaroy; Katie Nauert, Sunrise; Kendall Peterson, Mullan Road; Malcolm Soelberg, Freeman; Jami Bjorkland, Freeman; Heather Hoberg, Greenacres; Shane Lewis, Freeman; Peter Hawkins, Mullan Road; and Isaac Harmson, Jefferson.
Fourth grade: Austen Zajonc, Chattaroy; Jill Miller, Colbert; Tiara Jones, Blair; Erin Bresnahan, Hamblen; Jaclyn Benson, Chattaroy; Lauren Nay, Freeman; Christopher Weddle, Ridgeview; Jacob Leenhouts, Hallett; and Anna Parr, Hallett.
Fifth grade: James Lund, Ridgeview; Amber Knuth, Lake Spokane; Madison Brewton, Hutton; Marie Garbida, Blair; Brittney Lively, Blair; Christina Crowley, St. John Vianney; Trevor Hanson, Sunrise; Kassi Knitter, Hutton; and Max Kumangai-McGee, Trinity.
Air Force Cadet Richard L. Millard has been placed on the Dean’s List at the Air Force Academy, Colorado Springs, Colo., and Timothy J. Pierce, was placed on the academy’s Commandant’s List.
Millard is a 1995 graduate of Mead High School.
Pierce, son of Charles M. and Donna L. Pierce, Spokane, graduated from University High School in 1994.
Megan Froman, 3-1/2, daughter of Sue and John Gately, has been chosen as a state finalist in the Miss Washington American Princess pageant to be held next September in Seattle.
Kerry M. Fleiger, a senior at Luther College, Decorah, Iowa, was named to the Dean’s List for fall quarter. She is the daughter of Randall and Kathryn Fleiger, Spokane, and is majoring in physics and mathematics.
Dwight L. Eller, a securecommunications systems maintenance specialist at Luke Air Force Base, Ariz., has been promoted to the rank of senior airman.
He is the son of Ava J. Eller, Jerome, Idaho, and Terry L. Eller, Greenacres.
Eugene L. Taylor, son of Susan E. Taylor, Medical Lake, has been promoted in the Air Force to the rank of airman first class.
Taylor, a 1988 graduate of Medical Lake High School, is a television broadcast producer at Yokota Air Base, Japan.
