Janitor Charged With Assaulting Lawmaker

Compiled From Wire Services

A U.S. Capitol janitor was charged with assault after he allegedly slammed into a Utah congressman while he was walking with two other House members to a floor vote.

Frank Goode, 33, allegedly brushed against Rep. Ron Klink, D-Pa., as he passed them Friday afternoon. With Klink were Reps. Bill Orton, D-Utah, and Karen Thurman, D-Fla.

After the incident, the lawmakers told U.S. Capitol Police that Goode had glared at them. “He charged at the group … and bodyslammed” Orton, knocking him to the ground, said Capitol Police spokesman Sgt. Dan Nichols.

Orton was not injured, Nichols said. He said Goode was charged with assaulting a member of Congress, a felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
