Man Stabbed Under Bridge; 60-Year-Old Transient Charged

From Staff And Wire Reports

Spokane police charged a 60-year-old transient Friday with stabbing a man under a downtown bridge last week.

Milfred G. Lawson was booked into the Spokane County Jail for first-degree assault.

Police said Lawson stabbed another man during a dispute Tuesday night under the Greene Street bridge.

Lawson reportedly told police he stabbed the man because he lunged at him with a knife while the two were arguing.

Police said they recovered a folding knife from Lawson.

The stabbing victim was treated and released at an area hospital, said Dick Cottam, police spokesman.

Lawson told police two men came to his camp under the bridge. One of the men threatened Lawson’s dog and was bitten by it, starting the argument, police said.
