No Warm Weather In Immediate Future
Based on Friday’s snow showers over the Inland Northwest, forecasters said it might be a good idea to hold off on planting your beans.
A cold northerly flow brought near-record cold into the Spokane region Friday. The morning low of 32 was one degree shy of the all-time low for May 3.
Higher temperatures during the day caused the air to rise vertically, setting off the afternoon snow showers, Miller said.
“It’s not common, but it does happen,” he said of the May snowfall, which did not stick to the ground.
The last time measurable snow was recorded in Spokane was on May 1, 1983, on Bloomsday, when 0.8 inches fell at the airport.
Friday morning, the weather service received a report of snow sticking to the hillsides along U.S. Highway 95 south of Moscow.
Forecasters said Friday should be the coldest and snowiest day for a while.
Temperatures should warm 2 or 3 degrees today, and another 2 or 3 degrees on Sunday. The chance of showers will drop.
Cool weather and showers are expected most of next week.
