The death toll from an earthquake in Inner Mongolia climbed to 15 Saturday. Reports said 241 people were injured when the tremor toppled houses and shook much of northern China.
The magnitude-6.4 earthquake struck Friday morning and was centered just north of the industrial center of Baotou, 340 miles northwest of Beijing.
The state-run Xinhua News Agency said 33 of the injured were in serious condition. Most victims were hit by falling debris, although six people were reported to have died in a gold mine near the quake’s epicenter.
