Driver Who Crashed Into Power Pole Held

From Staff And Wire Reports

Sheriff’s deputies arrested a man Saturday night who crashed his pick-up truck into a power pole and scuffled with a deputy.

Stephen C. Hart, 32, was taken to a local hospital and booked into the Spokane County Jail following the 8 p.m. accident in the 9500 block of Montgomery Avenue.

The crash knocked out power to parts of the Spokane Valley.

Neighbors called deputies to a house near Portland and Pines Road, reporting that Hart was beating a woman in the front yard, said sheriff’s Lt. Chan Bailey.

Hart left with his 2-year-old daughter in a white pick-up before deputies arrived, Bailey said.

Deputies reportedly later spotted the pick-up speeding west along Montgomery, travelling at about 60 mph in 30 mph zone.

When deputies began to pursue the pick-up, Hart lost control and crashed it into a power pole. Deputies pulled the Hart’s uninjured daughter from the pick-up while Hart fought with them, Bailey said.

Deputies handed the girl to a bystander and arrested Hart.

Deputies said alcohol may have been involved in the accident.

Hart faces possible charges of third-degree assault, domestic violence assault, reckless driving and driving under the influence of alcohol, Bailey said. , DataTimes
