Roy Jones Bonners Ferry, Idaho

Graveside service for Roy A. Jones Sr., 80, was held Saturday at Grandview Cemetery in Bonners Ferry. Bonners Ferry Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Jones, who was born in Spokane, died Tuesday.

He worked as a diesel mechanic, a miner and a plumber. He moved to Bonners Ferry and worked for the city of Bonners Ferry, retiring in 1980.

Mr. Jones was a member of the Moose Lodge and a charter member of the Bonners Ferry Boat Club.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ada. Survivors include one son, Roy Jones Jr. of Nevada; two daughters, Laura Felch of Spokane and Judy Trice of Moyie Springs, Idaho; a brother, Robert Jones of Spokane; two sisters, Doris Gallvan of Spokane and Virginia Shirley of Portland; 18 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and eight great-great-grandchildren.

Lois Charlton Sandpoint

Service for Lois Elnora Charlton, 80, will be today at 11 a.m. at Coffelt’s Moon Chapel in Sandpoint. Burial will follow at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Sandpoint. Coffelt Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Charlton, who was born near Dayton, Wash., died Wednesday.

She had lived in Vancouver, Wash., before moving to Sandpoint in 1950. She worked at the Pastime Cafe in Sandpoint and the Idaho Liquor Dispensary, retiring in 1978.

Mrs. Charlton was a member of the Idaho Public Employees Association.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Earl, in 1990. Survivors include three sons, Walt Charlton of Oklahoma, Charles Charlton of Sandpoint and Dan Charlton of Virginia; three daughters, Beverly Alford of Vancouver, Patricia Smith of Washington and Lois Meitzler of Colorado; one sister, Doris Amen of Ritzville, Wash.; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Blanche Ramser Spokane

Inurnment service for Blanche L. Ramser, 87, will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Ramser, who died April 27, was born in Washington state.

She had lived in Spokane for 45 years and worked as a stenographer for the state of Washington for 15 years.

Her husband, W.T. “Doc” Ramser, died in 1969.

She is survived by one brother, Harold Veum of San Antonio, Texas; and one sister, Virginia Green of Spokane.

Melvin Olson Spokane

No service will be held for Melvin Palmer Olson, 83, at his request. Lauer Funeral Home in Deer Park is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Olson, who was born in Coeur d’Alene, died Thursday.

He served in the Navy during World War II.

He was a longtime Spokane Valley resident and retired as an industrial supply sales clerk from Washington Machinery.

Mr. Olson was a member of the Eagles, Moose and Brotherhood of Friends lodges.

His wife, Grace Olson, died in 1985.

He is survived by two sons, Steven Olson of Rathdrum, Idaho, and Levin Olson of Anchorage, Alaska; and one granddaughter.

Ella Jess Spokane

Visitation for Ella F. Jess, 93, is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Service is set for 1 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home with burial to follow at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mrs. Jess, who died Saturday, was born in Genesee, Idaho.

She was an 80-year Spokane resident and was a homemaker.

Her husband, George Jess, preceded her in death.

She is survived by one daughter, Merle Hopkins of Spokane; and one sister, Marie Alm of Grangeville, Idaho.

Ivan ‘Ike’ McMullen Spokane

Visitation for Ivan R. “Ike” McMullen, 73, is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Riverside Memorial Park.

Mr. McMullen, a longtime Spokane resident, died Saturday. He was born in High River, Alberta.

He was a long-haul truck driver for many years before going to work for Cunningham Sand and Gravel. He retired in 1982.

He was a member of Eagles Lodge No. 2.

His wife of 38 years, Ethel “Pat” McMullen, died in 1979.

Mr. McMullen is survived by one son, Ray McMullen of Mead; his companion of 16 years, Darlene Newman; and two grandsons.

Memorial contributions may be made to Shriner’s Hospital for Crippled Children.

Peter Litt Coulee City, Wash.

Visitation for Peter Allen Litt, 76, is scheduled from 10 to 11 a.m. today at Coulee City Presbyterian Church. Service will be at 11 a.m. at the church. Burial will be at Valley View Memorial Park in Soap Lake, Wash. Kayser’s Chapel of Memories in Moses Lake is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Litt, who was born in Fresno, Calif., died Friday at McKay Memorial Nursing Home in Soap Lake.

He moved to Wilson Creek, Wash., with his family when he was young. They later moved to Hartline, Wash., where he graduated from high school.

After his father died in 1938, Mr. Litt and his brother, Fred, continued to operate the family farm.

In 1941, he married Evelyn Patterson. They moved to Coulee City in 1944 and farmed. Mr. Litt retired in 1978.

He is survived by his wife; one daughter, Janice Razey of Lubbock, Texas; and one grandson.

Margaret Stensgar DeSmet, Idaho

Funeral Mass for Margaret C. Stensgar, 85, is set for 10 a.m. today at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in DeSmet, Idaho. Burial will follow at DeSmet Cemetery. Kramer Funeral Home in Tekoa, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Stensgar, who died Friday, was born in DeSmet.

She married Elmer Falcon in DeSmet in the 1930s. He was killed in the Philippines during World War II.

She married Elmer Stensgar in the late 1940s and they lived in DeSmet. He died in the 1980s.

Mrs. Stensgar had lived in DeSmet most of her life, except for a few years in Keller, Wash., and the past three months in the Tekoa Care Center.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Kateri Tekawitha Guild and the Coeur d’Alene Tribe of Indians and spoke the native Coeur d’Alene language.

Survivors include one son, Ernie Stensgar of Plummer, Idaho; one brother, Leonard Joseph of Elmo, Mont.; two sisters, Evangeline Abraham and LaVinia Felsman, both of DeSmet; five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Vernon VanOrder Spokane

Service for Vernon LeRoy VanOrder, 73, is planned for 11 a.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Burial will be at Spokane Memorial Gardens.

Mr. VanOrder, who died Friday, was born in Colfax, Wash.

He worked at Kaiser Aluminum and Chemical Co. in Trentwood for 26 years.

He was a World War II Army Air Force veteran, a member of the Cheney Veterans of Foreign Wars and the United Steel Workers of America Union.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Myla “Phyllis” VanOrder of Spokane; one son, Vernon VanOrder Jr. of Spokane; two daughters, Cynthia Reber of Spokane and Claudia Wetterling of Pasco; two sisters, Aladene Sundberg of Otis Orchards and Virginia Horn of Spokane; five grandchildren, two step-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Shriner’s Hospital for Crippled Children.

Marlene Shea Spirit Lake, Idaho

Memorial service for Marlene Shea, 56, will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Spirit Lake. Yates Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Shea, who was born in Brooklyn, N.Y., died Thursday.

She lived in various areas of the United States and Europe before moving to Spirit Lake in 1976.

She went to work for Key Tronic Corp. in 1978 as a dark room technician. She later worked for Viking Construction until 1995.

Survivors include her husband of 37 years, Leo; one son, Mathew Shea of Spirit Lake; three daughters, Laura McKee of Texas, Joye Sawchenko of California and Debbie Jensen of Kentucky; her parents, John and Jean Hofmann of New Mexico; two brothers, Eric and John Hofmann, both of New York; one sister, Karen Weiss of Florida; and six grandchildren.
