Shotgun Goes Off, Killing Actress

Compiled From Wire Services

A shotgun went off accidentally Monday as a film was being made, killing an actress, police said.

An actor playing an armed body guard in the Sinhalese-language film, “Country of Lakes,” loaded the shotgun to disperse a crowd in the film.

Anoma Nilmini, 27, was hit by gunfire. She was rushed to the hospital but died during surgery. A cameraman and the film’s art director were wounded in the incident.

Police were questioning Sarath Chandrasiri, the actor, and Parakrama Nirielle, the movie producer, to find out why live ammunition was used during filming in the town of Anuradhapura in central Sri Lanka.
