Inquiry Launched Into Teen’s Death

From Staff Reports

Prosecutor Tevis Hull began a magistrate’s inquiry Thursday, a seldom used court proceeding, to investigate the death of a 16-year-old Sandpoint boy.

Two months ago, Robert Parker was found dead in his bedroom after a teenage drinking party at his home. An autopsy showed Parker died from a blow to the head.

Authorities said Parker was in several fights the night of the party. They now want to determine if Parker’s death was accidental or a homicide.

Authorities first suspected he died of alcohol poisoning, but tests showed Parker’s blood-alcohol level was well below the legal limit.

About 30 people, mostly juveniles, were at the party. But the teens have been uncooperative with police. To get statements from the partygoers, Hull started calling them into court Thursday to give their statements before a judge.

The hearing is closed to the public and will continue today. Pathologist George Lindholm of Spokane is expected to give his autopsy results at the hearing today.

At the conclusion of the hearing, Judge Barry Watson of Coeur d’Alene will decide if there is enough evidence to file charges.
