State To Get High-Speed Trains
Washington state and Amtrak on Thursday announced plans to buy three $10 million high-speed trains to beef up rail service in the Pacific Northwest.
The state has ordered two European-style trainsets from Renfe Talgo of America and Amtrak will buy a third train, with delivery set for early 1998. The new trains will serve the rail corridor between Eugene, Ore., and Vancouver, British Columbia.
State and federal transportation officials, Amtrak, Talgo and the Spanish ambassador to the United States planned news conferences today in Seattle and Portland to announce the deal and sign the papers.
