Bank Extending Fee Beyond Chicago Area
A year after creating a stir by charging some Chicago-area customers $3 each time they went to a teller, the nation’s seventh-largest bank is taking the fee on the road.
First Chicago NBD Corp. reaffirmed its commitment Friday to the teller fee for customers with low-balance accounts, with executives saying the bank will extend the charge to other states by year’s end.
The bank will extend the fees to branches in Indiana and Michigan by the end of the year, said Verne Istock, who became the bank’s chairman Friday.
