Seattle Zoo Names Baby Gorilla Nadiri

From Staff And Wire Reports

The baby gorilla at the Woodland Park Zoo has been named Nadiri.

The name, pronounced NAH’-dih-ree, means “rare” in the language of West Africa’s Hausa people.

The name was one of 53,000 submitted for the baby in a contest.

The winner, Jane MacPherson of Seattle, found the name in a book she checked out of the library titled “What to Name Your African Baby.” She won two airline tickets and a one-year pass to the zoo.
