Crime Reporter Found Murdered
A crime reporter for a leading daily newspaper in southeastern Siberia was murdered by unknown assailants, a news agency reported Monday.
Viktor Mikhailov, a reporter for the Zabaikalsky Rabochy newspaper, was killed Sunday in Chita, a city about 3,000 miles east of Moscow, Interfax said.
Mikhailov covered crime and law enforcement agencies in Siberia, the agency said. His mutilated body was discovered Monday.
Fifteen journalists were killed in 1995 in Russia, most of them in Chechnya, according to the Glasnost Defense Fund, a human rights group.
