World News Jostles Dollar

The dollar fell against the Japanese yen Monday on fears of rising interest rates, but rose against the mark amid worries that Germany could be headed for labor strikes this summer over wages.

The dollar finished narrowly higher against most other currencies during a late afternoon uptick.

Expectations have been growing in recent days that Japan was headed toward raising interest rates as signs of new strength emerge in its economy.

A warning this weekend of diminished tax revenues in Germany led to worries about less money for government employee wage increases.
