Editor Escapes Injury In Attack
A grenade damaged the car of a crusading newspaper editor just days after he resigned his post, but no one was injured, authorities said Thursday.
Jose Ruben Zamora Marroquin, who resigned Monday from Siglo Veintiuno, was dining in a Guatemala City restaurant on Wednesday evening when the grenade was thrown from a passing car.
The explosion damaged the wheels and radiator of his car. A second grenade failed to go off.
Zamora said the attack appeared to be a “message to leave the country.” He vowed he would remain in Guatemala.
