EV Polling On Year-Round Classes

Marny Lombard Staff Writer

The East Valley School District wants to know how many parents would send their children to the district’s year-round education program. The program is still in development. No starting date has been set.

The district has sent surveys on the program to all parents. Officials also will hold five meetings next week on the year-round program. Meetings starting at 7 p.m. will be at Trent Elementary on Tuesday, Skyview Elementary on Wednesday and East Farms Elementary on Thursday. Two meetings will be held at East Valley High School: Thursday at 3 p.m., and Saturday at 10 a.m.

East Valley Superintendent Chuck Stocker said the meetings will answer questions such as these: How will the program be paid for? How will the year-round program affect current programs? Will regular programs lose funding? How will teachers be selected for the program? How will parents have input into the program?

The survey sent to parents asks if they are interested in having their children in a year-round program and if they want to help develop such a program.

A similar survey has been sent to East Valley teachers.

Participation in the year-round program is voluntary. No decisions have been made on the location or the schedule of a year-round school.
